Charlie Byrd (1925 -1999) was one of the frst modern guitar players to reintroduce the unamplifed Spanish guitar into jazz. Presented here are three complete 1962 sessions featuring Byrd as the main soloist. This edition constitutes the original Byrd album 'Bossa Nova Pelos Passaros' in its entirety.

"On this recording Byrd has shown himself to be a consistently inventive musician, not only in his playing but in his programming too. He has rarely been content to duplicate a success. This is his third album either touching or focusing on bosa nova. The frst, Latin Impressions, was a musical report of his South American tour that was only incidentally concerned with bossa nova. The second, Jazz Samba, with Stan Getz, opened the bossa nova foodgates. Now, in his frst post- food recording, Byrd is programming as astutely as ever - doing a few numbers as expected with his regular trio but playing others with a string background and using on others a septet that includes trombone and fute or alto saxophone.
