DG’s Avant-garde series comprised four 6-LP boxed sets of the most forward thinking and daring music of the time: composers such as György Ligeti, John Cage, Luciano Berio, Mauricio Kagel, Luigi Nono, Krzysztof Penderecki, Bernd Alois Zimmermann, Dieter Schnebel and Witold Lutoslawski. Now for the first time, DG collects the trailblazing series, which has achieved cult status, in one edition*, with the original sleeve designs and liner notes, including essays by the composers themselves. The 21-CD set includes numerous CD premieres and is released alongside 19 e-albums new to the digital supply chain with optimized tracking for streaming. *Three Stockhausen albums, which were part of the original Avant-garde series, have not been included in this edition as we respect the preference of the Stockhausen estate to abstain from this re-release.
