A first-time reissue of UK Soul and RnB legend Terri Walker’s Mercury Prize nominated debut album Untitled (2003). Celebrating its 20th anniversary the album includes the singles, Drawing Board, Ching Ching and Guess You Didn’t Love Me – featuring Mos Def. As well as the Mercury Music prize nomination, Terri Walker was also nominated for four MOBO awards and the album was critically acclaimed with the BBC’s Denise Boyd proclaiming “she has captured the heart of classic soul and blended it with a modern R&B flava. The result is original and uniquely her own.”
One of the refreshing aspects of Untitled is that it is not full of collaborations – instead at its heart is the immaculate voice of the artist with strong songs and positive, uplifting lyrics. “Guess You Didn’t Love Me“, which does features Mos Def was a notable coup for a debut album.
Born in London, Walker moved to Germany as a child returning to study at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London. Influenced by singers such as Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and Mica Paris, Terri became heavily involved in the UK Garage scene. She contributed vocals to tracks for the likes of Shanks & Bigfoot and Jaimeson whilst still creating her own brand of urban soul music. Untitled – her debut release on Mercury via Defsoul UK was critically acclaimed. About the album’s title she said ‘That’s how I want people to see my work. I want them judge for themselves and make up their own minds.’
Hailed as one of the UK’s brightest soul talents this reissue on transparent blue vinyl recreates the original gatefold artwork of the album.
