The highly anticipated soundtrack to one of 2021’s biggest movies – Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The film will not have a pop soundtrack and so this is the only soundtrack release from the blockbuster. Ghostbusters: Afterlife is directed by Jason Reitman, who co-wrote the screenplay with Gil Kenan. It is the sequel to Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989) (both directed by Reitman's father Ivan, who serves as producer) and the fourth film overall in the Ghostbusters franchise. The film stars Carrie Coon (Leftovers, Fargo), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things, IT(2017)), Mckenna Grace (Crash & Bernstein, The Young and the Restless) and Paul Rudd (Clueless, Romeo + Juliet, Wet Hot American Summer, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Ant-Man). The film – and the soundtrack in particular – have received high praise already, with Empire describing it as “thoroughly lovely” and “firmly establishing a new generation”, and Forbes as a “charming and witty coming-of-age fantasy”. The soundtrack has been composed by award-winning composer (and frequent Reitman collaborator), Rob Simonsen, known for (500) Days of Summer, Moneyball, Life of Pi, The Spectacular Now and Love, Simon. Based in Los Angeles and ever with his finger on the pulse of contemporary music, Simonsen co-founded the influential collective The Echo Society with the mission ‘to inspire, challenge, enrich and connect the community through the creation and performance of new sonic and visual art’. Simonsen’s debut artist album Reveries was released in 2019 on Sony Masterworks and he has nearly 300,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.
