Pape Djiby Ba was born in Dakar in Senegal. At 14 already, in the night, he slips out of his house to go play his first concerts. After several years in the National Orchestra, Pape Djiby Ba is twice awarded the title of “Knight of the National Order of Merit” by the President of Senegal.
His greatest success “Baliya” hit the headlines in the 80s and therefore made him an undeniable talent. After thirteen years in Paris, Pape Djiby Ba now lives in Bern in Switzerland. It is here that he sets up his new orchestra with the help of saxophonist and arranger Matthias Wenger. Under the sign of “Dialogue of Cultures”, Swiss African Orchestra recorded in 2018 a new album in Paris. For the launch of the disc in 2020, several concerts in Switzerland, in Europe as well as a big tour in Senegal are planned.
