"Salvation is defnitely a recurring theme," says Will Adamson, frontman of hotly-tipped Scots three-piece Malmo - And he has a point : The band's beautifully-crafted debut album, The Unfolding Of Love & Landscapes, is full of moments that will resonate with fans of adult-oriented songwriting - the joy of rekindled romance, the magic in the everyday and sometimes just the struggle to keep on keeping on when times are hard
"Sometimes it's euphoric," says Adamson, "and at others its bittersweet ... just like life."
Released on 29th November 2024 and preceded by digital-only single The Bridge, the album has some clear reference points - Bowie, Talk Talk, The National and Roxy Music all spring to mind. CD contains three extra bonus tracks.
"One of the most exciting and inventive new acts to emerge from Scotland." - Billy Sloan, BBC Radio Scotland
Along with Alex Milne, Malmo's in-house producer, arranger and programming wizard, Adamson was once part of the band Shine, creators of one of Scotland's greatest "lost albums" - the Bobby Henry-produced A Far & Distant Shore. "We did actually record three albums' worth of material," says Adamson of the days when Shine were signed to US mega-label SBK (they were label-mates with Blur and Milla Jovovich), hanging out with Hipsway in New York and working with music industry legends such as Bruce
Lampcov and Roger Menell. Record company politics meant the record was released, on a limited basis, only in the US. Coincidentally, Malmo's third member, guitarist Tim Barr, worked with Adamson, Milne and Henry on their post-album studio sessions.
