Track Listing
A1. Amor Fati (Peverelist remix)
B1. Tilikum (Hodge remix)

Nothing, it would appear, is sacred on Livity Sound. In 2014, Peverelist invited more than a dozen artists to pull apart the label's back catalogue, and the results often seemed to have little to do with the source material. A Made Up Sound's two overhauls of "Velez" by Asusu were shrouded in smog; Dresvn shrunk Asusu's "Too Much Time Has Passed" into a microhouse whisper; and Stenny & Andrea split open the polyrhythmic knots of Pev & Kowton's "End Point" with a hammer.

Perhaps in light of this, Livity's "reverse" sister label seems to ask, 'What if we remix each other?' And so we have Peverelist taking on Hodge's "Amor Fati" and Hodge reconstructing "Tilikum" by Bruce. Both wriggle between lashing techno hi-hats and complex, UK-derived drum patterns, and the results suggest that Livity's artists are as inspired by label mates as their forebears.

Peverelist's remix of "Amor Fati" emerges from the hybrid of techno and UK bass he's been cultivating for a while—the original's stuttered chant is thinned out and blended into a spacious shell of aqueous melody and rattling sub-bass. It unfurls more slowly than the original, but will sweep you up all the same. "Tilikum" ploughs a straighter techno furrow, but it's full of movement underneath. The melodies bounce as if drummed by snapping yardsticks, and its snares crack like fire from a starter pistol.
