The romantic side of Maestro Morricone contrasts the dramatic side of Thriller and Crime genre where dissonances always dominate. For TIE ME UP! (1989) Morricone composed a delicate love theme for his one and only collaboration with the great Spanish film director Pedro Almodovar. For FOR LOVE (1976) he created a motif for piano and orchestra as a back- ground to a love triangle. The first sexual experiences of a teenager with older women at the end of the war in DISOBEDI- ENCE (1981) are accompanied by piano, strings and oboe. “Desperate love theme” from MAKING LOVE (2000) is a very nostalgic classic tune for violin and orchestra. “Per le antica scale (Preludio)” from DOWN THE ANCIENT STAIRS (1975) is a captivating, slow and sensual, love tune for piano and orchestra with a predominant flute solo. “Beata and Joe” from THE STAR MAKER (1995) a sentimental theme for the two protagonists performed by an orchestra with the intervention of a classical guitar in the second part. The crystal voice of soprano Edda Dell’Orso appears very frequently in Ennio Mor- ricone’s soundtracks as in the case of THE GOOD THIEF (1980), THE MASTER AND MARGARITA (1972), WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO SOLANGE? (1972), ORIENT EXPRESS (1979).

Il lato romantico del Maestro Morricone contrasta quello drammatico del genere giallo e poliziesco dove le dissonanze fanno sempre da padrone di casa. Per LÈGAMI! (1989) Morricone ha composto un delicato tema d’amore per la sua unica collabo- razione con il grande regista spagnolo Pedro Almodovar. Per PER AMORE (1976) ha creato un motivo per piano e orchestra come sottofondo ad un triangolo d’amore. Per le prime esperienze sessuali di un adolescente con donne più grandi di lui alla fine della guerra in LA DISUBBIDIENZA (1981) sono accompagnate da pianoforte, archi e oboe. “Tema d’amore disperato” da CANONE INVERSO (2000) è un motivo di sapore classico per violino e orchestra molto nostalgico. “Per le antiche scale (Preludio)” da PER LE ANTICHE SCALE (1975) è un accattivante motivo d’amore lento e sensuale per pianoforte e or- chestra con il predominante flauto solista. “Beata e Joe” da L’UOMO DELLE STELLE (1995) il tema sentimentale per i due protagonisti eseguito dall’orchestra con l’intervento di chitarra classica nella seconda parte. La voce di cristallo del soprano Edda Dell’Orso appare molto frequentemente nelle colonne sonore di Ennio Morricone come nel caso qua di IL LADRONE (1980), IL MAESTRO E MARGHERITA (1972), COSA AVETE FATTO A SOLANGE?
