Summer Music Events To Look Forward To In 2020

08.14.2020

As a result of the COVID-19 crisis, many are calling summer 2020 the summer without festivals. And, for the most part, they are correct. The cancellation of live music events this summer is not just a blow to the music festival circuit, but to the UK music industry’s ecosystem as a whole.

In the past decade, music festivals have become a staple of the British summer. In fact, in the past year alone, more than 26% of adults in the UK attended a music festival. experts estimate that the UK concert and festival industry was worth £2.6 billion, with more than 1,000 festival events taking place each year here in the UK. But that was before the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, many of those festivals have been cancelled with many more about to be cancelled as promoters look for new and innovative ways to make live music events safe to attend again.

Two of those ways is through virtual music festivals and socially distanced events. Both of which are ideas ahead of their time, but very much  needed right now if we are to save the UK music industry. The economic damage caused by the COVID-19 crisis has led to calls from the Music Venues Trust for £50 million of government support.

So, just what summer music events do we have to look forward to in 2020? Let’s take a look:

Bluedot 24-26 July 2020- This year they will host 'A Weekend In Outer Space', a virtual event mixing live dance music and EDM performances and talks by artists and personalities live from London and New York.
